Muriel de Burgh Daly – Journal de Bordighera and the Tea Rooms

Jürgen Schlieszeit continues to research the hotels, buildings and villas of Bordighera, with precision and success. Today he emailed Gisella and Marcus with some useful news given that we are working on a new piece about Clarence and tennis in Bordighera.

Jürgen writes “So… Journal de Bordighera. The newspaper was edited until around 1905 by G.N. Albetieri. The management was initially in the Casa Sivori.

In 1905 Muriel de Burgh took over the editorship (as Administrateur-Directeur) until the end of the newspaper in 1934. The management was initially in Villa Boschereccia. From 1920 the management was transferred to Casa Rustica and from 1927 to the Villa die Giardini until 1934.

Muriel de Burgh Daly was the wife of Henry de Burgh Daly, vice-consul of Bordighera. He died in 1897. His widow Muriel de Burgh lived at Villa Giglio together with her son Ulick de Burgh Daly and her two daughters Eileen Daly and Lily M. Daly. The latter had managed the Bordighera Tea Room since 1900, which was located at the tennis courts. Eileen later ran the Tea Room on her own.”

Jürgen adds “It might also be worth noting that the Dalys previously lived below Villa Cava, where Villa Edelweis stands today.” Thank you for the input.
