We received the email below from Daniela Gandolfi, Director of the Istituto Internazionale di Studi Liguri, owners of the Museo Bicknell in Bordighera. In 1888, our patron and champion Clarence Bicknell built the museum to collect, preserve, and exhibit his archaeological and botanical collections. They have launched crowd-funding campaign for installing a heat exchange and air conditioning unit in the museum, which we know from experience is sorely needed.
I show the English translation of their crowd-funding page below also. This seems to me to be a good idea and worthy of our support. Subject to approval from our committee members, the Clarence Bicknell Association is likely to make a small donation, as will Susie and Marcus Bicknell. Please click on the link and give generously.
The Museo-Biblioteca Clarence Bicknell in Bordighera is a special place, where generations of scholars have taken their first steps and carried out their research and thousands of tourists were able to rediscover the authentic “Belle Epoque” charm of Bordighera. The Bicknell Museum has been open to the public since 1888 and since 1937 it has been home to the International Institute of Ligurian Studies and its library specialized in archeology, art history, humanities and rich in archival funds of national and international interest. This special place needs your help to continue protecting its invaluable cultural heritage in a sustainable and efficient way. Our project: collect € 15,000 for a green future Our old boiler has made its time and to guarantee a comfortable environment both in the common rooms of scholars and visitors, and in book deposits, we must install a more modern heat convertible pump that will replace the current heating and conditioning system of the our museum-biblioteca. This investment is not only a technical necessity, but a conscious choice for the future of our cultural heritage.
Because it is important – Comfort for scholars: the common spaces will become more welcoming for researchers and visitors who contribute to the cultural life of the museum-biblioteca every day. – Health protection: the correct temperature and humidity are essential to preserve our precious volumes and historical documents. – Environmental sustainability: the heat pump will significantly reduce CO2 emissions. – Energy saving: the new system will allow to reduce operating costs, freeing resources for cultural and research activities. With your help, we will ensure that our museum-biblioteca continues to be a lighthouse of culture and welcome, heated not only by the passion of the staff and the many visitors and researchers, but also by cutting-edge technology. Help us achieve this important goal. Every euro donated is a step towards a more sustainable future for our cultural heritage. Every contribution, small or large, will make the difference.
